Haliburton Forest offers more than just incredible wilderness experiences: we also have a Forest Products division that sustainably manages our 100,000 acre property, operates two sawmills and manufacturers log homes, paddles, furniture, and household goods like burl bowls. In addition to these operations, we offer woodlot stewardship services, so that other landowners can benefit from our decades of forest management experience. All of these operations and related services are described below!
Stewardship Services is our landowner forestry services program. If you own a woodlot or forested property and want help managing it, we want to help you achieve your objectives as a landowner! We offer a variety of services including MFTIP/CLTIP plans and enrollment, harvest preparation and management, timber sales and marketing, forest health/diversity improvements, infrastructure building, and landowner training. Haliburton Forest Sawmill
The Sawmill is the core operation of our Forest Products division. It is a mid-sized hardwood mill producing approximately 25,000 boardfeet per day. Our primary species are Hard maple but we also manufacture lumber from any of the hardwood species that grow in the 100,000 acres that we own and manage at Haliburton Forest. The Haliburton Forest Paddle Shop has re-opened!
Leading the re-opening efforts is the new coordinator of The Paddle Shop, Corey Pietryszyn. As an avid outdoor enthusiast, Corey enjoys canoe tripping, camping, photography, and keeping busy as a craftsman. With an eye for detail and an endless creative imagination, Corey has a wealth of ideas for creating the best quality product possible, and the experience to go along with it.
Corey is intending to open up the shop, offering services such as custom paddle making, scheduled shop tours, and individual custom laser engraving. Manufacturing high quality bespoke furniture and household goods, Living Woodwork is a joint venture with Zach Tripp, the owner, operator, and head woodworker of this enterprise. The Research Institute is our internal research initiative, focusing on forest ecology, hardwood silviculture, product recovery, and wildlife population dynamics. We work closely with institutions such as the University of Toronto and Hocking College, among many others. Over the course of 30 years, Haliburton Forest has emerged as one of the most intensively studied forests in the world. Almaguin Forest Products is a new sawmill acquired by Haliburton Forest in early-2019. After many years of doing business with the Micallef Family, we accepted the opportunity to take over ownership and management of this successful hardwood lumber business. Having re-started operations in mid-2019, Almaguin Forest Products produces approximately 20,000 boardfeet per day of hardwood lumber. The sawmill is located at 39 Ena Avenue South River ON P0A1X0. Huntsville Forest Products is a new sawmill acquired by Haliburton Forest in late-2020. This historic sawmill was built in the 1970’s by the same company that once owned the lands that now comprise Haliburton Forest. After many years of doing business with this sawmill, we accepted the opportunity to acquire it from Rayonier Advanced Materials (formerly known as Tembec. Huntsville Forest Products produces approximately 40,000 boardfeet per day of hardwood lumber. The sawmill is located at 75 Old North Road Huntsville ON P1H 2J4. Neuman Forest Products was acquired by Haliburton Forest in late-2022. Having been succesfully owned and operated by Darwyn Neuman for over 50 years, we embraced the opportunity to take over this succesful mid-sized sawmill. It is located on the shores of the Madawaska River in the beautiful town of Palmer Rapids. Neuman forest Products produces approximately 20,000 boardfeet per day of hardwood lumber. Stakeholder Concerns & Dispute Resolution
The staff of the Forest Products division of Haliburton Forest are committed to working constructively with all stakeholders at all times. Recognizing that stakeholders may from time to time have concerns or disputes with our forest management practices or forest products facilities operations, we have developed a dispute resolution process, which can be viewed here. The first step in our dispute resolution process is for the stakeholder to explain their concern or dispute to the appropriate manager or employee at Haliburton Forest.
