Craft Series

Wildly Creative: Craft & Create at the Wolf Centre

Escape into creativity with a four-part workshop series at the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre – where art, nature, and community come together in a truly one-of-a-kind setting.

Each workshop includes Wolf Centre admission, giving you time to observe the resident wolf pack through one-way glass observatories and explore the museum-style galleries before or during your session. Whether you join us for one experience or all four, you’ll enjoy relaxed, beginner-friendly instruction, all required materials, and a welcoming, low-pressure atmosphere designed to spark creativity and connection.

Workshops Available

Embroidery Workshop

Slow down and stitch something beautiful. This guided session introduces you to the art of hand embroidery using nature-inspired designs. You’ll receive an embroidery hoop, needle, thread, fabric, and comprehensive written instructions to follow during (and after) the workshop.

With supportive instructors available throughout, you’ll create a personalized embroidered piece while enjoying snacks, beverages, and the calming presence of the wolf habitat just beyond the glass. If you need more time, take your materials home and finish at your own pace.

✏️ Drawing from Life: Wolves & Wildlife

Learn the foundations of drawing in an unforgettable setting. Begin with loose, gestural sketching as you observe the live wolf pack, then move into sustained drawing in the gallery space where you’ll focus on structure, anatomy, and detail using specimens and exhibits.

Guided by professional artist Tamara Holman (BFA, OCAD University), this workshop blends observation, technique, and creativity in a casual, encouraging environment. Snacks and beverages included.

Patchwork Landscape Drop-In

Turn fabric scraps into a landscape inspired by the forest. This flexible, drop-in style workshop runs throughout the day, allowing you to arrive at a time that works for you. Using a denim base and colourful fabric pieces, you’ll design a one-of-a-kind textile artwork as simple or detailed as you like.

Perfect for all ages and skill levels, this experience combines wolf viewing, gallery exploration, and hands-on creativity in a fun, welcoming space. Come for the wolves – stay for the crafting.

Macramé Tapestry Workshop

Discover the art of weaving with cord and dowels to create your own nature-inspired macramé piece — choose from a bookmark or a small wall hanging. You’ll learn foundational knotting techniques you can use again and again.

All materials are provided, along with pattern options, graph paper for custom designs, and detailed instructions to reference during and after the workshop. Enjoy a cozy, social crafting atmosphere with snacks, beverages, and plenty of instructor support so you can leave with a finished piece — and the skills to continue creating at home.
