Fall Photography Workshop

Capture Fall!

Join photographer David Sweeney on an exclusive tour/workshop of Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve over a day and a half. We will explore the landscapes, and waterscapes of the forest looking for memorable images of nature and wildlife. The weekend will start with a morning hour presentation, followed by a drive out to our first location. The group will travel by car through the forest. Sunday morning will start off with an early rise and weather permitting we will travel to a sunrise location in the forest. Pack lunches and snacks for our journey, and wear comfortable clothing, and hiking boots/shoes. Tripods are recommended for some locations.

David will be available for questions, as well as guiding participants on questions regarding exposure, composition, and more. At each location, David will discuss points on composition, pointing out land features, basic principals of what makes a good landscape photo, and giving advice on shooting. David is both an accredited judge for the Ontario Council Of Camera Clubs, and an award winning photographer with 17 years experience in photography, and a background in fine arts.

Saturday:

9am – meet at Base Camp – presentation will be held for approximately 1 hour – Location TBD.
10:15am – Convene in the parking lot and head out into the forest. Our first locations will be down the very east end of the East Road towards Marsh Lake, East Birchy Lake, etc.

12:00pm – Lunch will be at the Black Pond Shelter Cabin – participants should pack a lunch, water, and snacks.

1:00pm – The group will continue to explore the forest – we will proceed to Freezy Creek, and locations along the North Road. We will be heading towards Nugget Road, stopping at various locations including Depot Lake, Red Trail marsh @ Nugget Road, Lost Lake, and more.

We will be looking for an appropriate sunset location to end the day, where participants will be free to head back to their overnight accommodations.

Sunday:

5:30am – Meet @ Base camp gate. We will meet at the gate for 5:30am, and head north to Depot Lake for early morning sunrise. This will be weather dependant – if there is rain in the forecast, then the group will meet for 8:30am.

On Sunday we will be heading into the west side of the property – Nugget Road, the Havelock Loop, and L’Azure Lake will be our lunch stop. After lunch, we will make our way back towards Base, stopping along the way. The workshop ends after lunch, but participants are free to explore the forest for the remainder of the afternoon. If you plan to explore the forest, please make sure to obtain a gate key when you arrive so that you can let yourself out later in the day – keys are available from basecamp $25 refundable deposit.
