Haliburton Forest is known for being a very creative and innovative place. The Canopy Tour is definitely the most unique way to learn about and experience the forest first hand. Students will be equiped with safety gear and instruction and then guided along a series of 26 suspended bridges, from tree to tree, equalling 550 meters in length rangeing from 20 to 65 feet in height.
Students will experience a group paddle on a short canoe trip across Pelaw Lake in 24 foot voyaguer canoes (optional), then see the forest from the floor to the tree tops as they hike up "Huff and Puff Hill", and then through the canopy across a series of bridges and belay cables. Students will be engaged in different styles of interpretive conversation, including: the history of Haliburton Forest, the modern Haliburton Forest, sustainability, resource management, responsible stewardship, eco-tourism, tree and plant identification, animal tracking and much more. This is a perfect half day activity for students to be actively engaged within the living forest. Partner this activity with leadership activities, low-ropes, or wilderness survival to make the most of your stay at Haliburton Forest.
