Eco-Log Building Concepts
"Wood is universally beautiful to man. It is the most humanly intimate of all building materials."
- Frank Lloyd Wright
Our Wood
Majestic eastern hemlock trees measuring up to thirty inches in diameter are individually selected for our log homes, carefully felled and transported to our nearby mill. Using a state-of-the-art circular saw, each log is squared into timbers and sawn into boards for planking.

Hemlock has been used for over two centuries in barn construction throughout much of Eastern Canada. Farmers liked it because of its unusual strength and good resistance to decay and insect attack. Many of the old barns still standing today were built with this species. Because hemlock is often overlooked by today's builders, its price is lower than that of many other species, an advantage we pass on to our customers for their log home construction.
Our Forest
The majority of our wood grew in the Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve, situated in the heart of the rugged Haliburton Highlands (abutting Algonquin Provincial Park). The Forest's 60,000 acres are managed with the philosophy that "good forestry is good business".
Selective logging operations, a host of wildlife, and numerous recreational activities coexist and serve as a model for good forest stewardship.
Our Log Home Building Kits
With steep pitched roofs, spacious lofts, and heavy-timber walls, EcoLog buildings are rustic and charming. They make ideal cottages, cabins, and camp buildings.
Our standard log buildings come with 8" squared wall timbers and 4" x 10" heavy roof trusses. For lighter applications, such as seasonal use, 4" x 8" wall members are also available.
The Ambiance of a Log Home
Log homes exude pride of ownership. The warm traditional look and feel afforded by a natural log home is something that others will envy, as much as you will enjoy and appreciate. Log homes give a warm patina glow to any room and best of all log construction can compliment and match almost any decor that you may want to incorporate including modern and traditional designs. We have developed many Ontario log homes and all of our customers agree that a log home looks like a home should - welcoming, comforting and enduring.
What's Included?
Our basic building kits include the wall timbers, roof truss materials, log-chinking, hemlock boarding to cover the roof and gable ends, as well as an assembly manual with working drawings.
At your request we can also supply roofing materials, windows, doors and flooring. While we have a number of standard log building designs available, ranging from 100 square foot sheds to 3.000 square foot homes, we always enjoy working with our clients to customize a building to their specific needs.
Easy Assembly
The squared-timber wall members and simple box-joint corners make our buildings easy to erect. For example, a 24' x 24' log building can be erected and closed in by a three-person crew in four to five days.
If you have some previous log building experience, you may want to build an EcoLog building yourself. To get you started, we provide up-front, on-site technical assistance with all of our buildings.
Should you decide to hire a contractor, we can supply a list of those with previous EcoLog experience.
Commercial Applications
Our log buildings have been used in a number of commercial applications -- retail stores, art galleries, offices, youth camps and wilderness lodges. Whatever your business, let us work with you to design a log building that meets your company's needs at an affordable price.
